Downtown Broodhaha -Emotional Support Chickens for Charity

A fundraising event for Martha’s Community Kitchen and Tim’s House

From the minds and hearts of local fiber artists Donna Blatchly and Katy Collin this idea of creating, displaying, and auctioning off Emotional Support Chickens for local charities was brought to the Saint Albans Downtown Board and they couldn’t wait to get started!  Emotional Support Chickens are created by knitters and crocheters and are the most loveable, huggable friends any person could ever want.  They are bright and colorful and the most fun is they all have super fun and creative names.  Pictured here is Barbie Q. Chicken (created by Donna Blatchly) and her pal Henley A. Bit Unruly (created by Sue McGinley), each have their own personality and size. “Life is Hard, we all need a Chicken to make it better”

How does this all work you might be asking:

Starting on September 2 and lasting through September 27, businesses throughout downtown will display their chickens.  Stroll Downtown and see them all!!. Pick up the companion brochure in the Take One holders at the City hall Events and Taylor Park Events Kiosk.  The City Clerk’s office and Artist In Residence will also have some on hand.

We will have to opportunity for folks to join the Chicken Run- a fun scavenger hunt to find each businesses prized chicken, if you complete the Chicken Run and enter your completed sheet you will be entered to win the Top Hen “Miss Maple Leaf”.  The winner will be drawn at the Hen House Party on September 27, 2024 5:30-7pm.

Along side the fun you will be able to bid on your favorite chickens online throughout the month, Link to bid: https://givebutter.com/c/Broodhaha/auction.  The auction will close the day of the Hen House Party on Friday 27 September at noon.  Chickens will be awarded to their new owner and all the funds raised will be split between Martha’s Community Kitchen and Tim’s House.  We hope you will come and celebrate and see All the chickens in one place!!  The event will be in the St. Albans City Hall Auditorium on September 27th, 5:30-7pm.  Free Tickets Here: https://givebutter.com/c/Broodhaha
